FITA

World Archery is the international governing body for the sport of archery. Its mission is to promote and regulate archery worldwide, developing the sport with over 150 member associations through international events, development initiatives and marketing and endorsed by the International Olympic Committee, International Paralympic Committee and International World Games Association, among others.

It is responsible for setting the rules and regulations for international archery events, organising the World Archery Championships and for the sport at the Olympic Games, Paralympic Games and World Games.

MISSION AND VISION

World Archery’s vision is for a world in which everyone has the opportunity to make the important Olympic sport of archery their activity of choice. Its mission is to empower its member associations to make archery a leading sport in nations around the world.

OFFICE

World Archery’s headquarters are situated in Maison du Sport International in the Olympic Capital of Lausanne, Switzerland, close to the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee and a host of other international federations and sports organisations. The office is home to the federation’s full- and part-time staff, functions as a meeting place for committees and the base for the equipment and tools needed to deliver the calendar of international events.

GOVERNANCE

World Archery Congress is the primary governing body of World Archery and comprises of the organisation’s member associations, Executive Board and representatives from its permanent committees. Congress has the power to make changes to the World Archery Constitution and Rulebook and elects the World Archery President, Vice Presidents and other members of the Executive Board, and members of committees and commissions.

HISTORY

World Archery was founded on 4 September 1931 in Lwow, Poland as the Fédération Internationale de Tir à l’Arc or FITA. Its mission was to promote archery worldwide through the unification of rules and development of international events. The federation has been a trailblazer in areas of modernisation, development and gender equity. Its name officially changed to World Archery in 2011.
